Derailments

[[202111140844 beeminder/s]]: Derailed 10->30 and 30->90 this week. This is part of me trying to use Beeminder with larger, significant pledges. Last night, what went through my mind was “Do I want this right now?” and I thought “Would I pay ~30$ to e.g. go out tonight for an evening out with similar utility?” and the answer was yes. I’m now curious if 90$ will deter me, or will make me more likely to delete the goal.

[[202111140855 beeminder/pb-i-p]]: This is a work related goal. I need to work in my I project a certain amount of time. I need Beeminder because otherwise the accountability is missing. Also prompted by Hammertime.

[[202111140856 beeminder/yt-day-plan]]: This is to set a Yoda Timer for day planning. I’m terribly bad at this, and avoid it. I’d like to keep doing it a for a while, and see how I can get better.

Successes

  • [[202111211701 beeminder-news-tr]] 3.25 days/week -> 3.10 days/week I’m succeeding today. This has helped me cut down my news consumption significantly, without any derailment. Just a bit more ambition can be interesting.
  • [[202111211706 beeminder-news-nl]] 2 days/week -> 1.9 days/week.
  • [[202111211709 yt-day-plan]] Succeeding without derailments after 1 week. I find this quite useful, so I’ll extend it past my holiday, so that I can get back into it when I’m back.

This was due to a combination of (1) urgent issues at work getting me tired, or making me to obusy to make space for this and (2) laziness in the weekends to make up for the lost time. I do feel significant resistance to the goal, so it’s good I have this.
  • [[202111211651 beeminder-todo]]: Derailed 10->30 this week, on a weekend! This was just prioritisation error. I was free for [[202111140844 beeminder-s]] an opted for that. I first entered incorrect data. I was wiser the next morning.
  • [[202111211711 beeminder-srs]]: Derailed 5 -> 10 this week. I’ve been lazing about this, so I’m happy I’ve got the goal. I believe I wouldn’t derail at 10$ here.

[[202111211656 beeminder-reading-d]]: During focusing sessions this week, I felt significant negativity due to my Dutch skills. I created this goal to get back into Dutch reading and vocabulary building. I’m starting at 0.15h per day.

This was mainly due to /s.

On the other hand, this is a book I’d like to take my time with. It has exercises I’d like to do. Until I can figure out how to time that well with my commitment, I’m flatlining this.

High priority goals

My commitment is 7 hours/week. This week is closing at ~2.5 hours/week. The main reason is a bad respite days and auto-ratchet set up: I derailed and got 7 days of buffer. So I’ve waited until I’ve consumed all the buffer.

When I’m in a period with a lot of time to myself and no external commitments, I’m inclined to edge skate. When I’m going through such a period, I should either reconfigure respite days and auto-ratchet, or ratchet manually.
